Three stunning Yellow Wagtails near the car park this morning; two males and a female, I think. Also 16 White Wagtails, 6 Wheatears and 7 Whimbrels.
I'm hoping that the meeting at Denmark Farm on Sunday will be a good place to learn bird calls and songs for those attending who find this a bit daunting or else just feeling a bit rusty after the winter. My aim is not to see as many species as possible but rather get better acquainted with the common birds present at the reserve. Ideally, we will take a very leisurely stroll, resting awhile in the warm dappled shade to listen to the birds. In reality, the weather forecast is looking cool, wet and windy. if so, I think it likely we will be back to the centre mid morning, where we can take a tea/coffee/cake break. Then perhaps we could head off somewhere else for another hour or two. Maybe Long Wood community woodland, which is just 5 minutes away. We'll see how it goes...
