I have been away for a week and what a difference a week makes. I went across Foel fawr early this morning: my first tree pipit, and willow warblers everywhere. A wood warbler by Melindwr was also my first.
Ynys Feurig hide later - it was a shock to see that the water levels had dropped so much in a week, leaving 2 incubating lapwings high and dry. The main highlight was a single greenshank, but that was the only wader apart from 3 pairs of lapwing and 7 redshank. Other sightings included 6 white wagtails, 9 wigeon, 2 pintail, and 39 teal. On the river at high tide were 95 dunlin, 30 ringed plover, 30 curlew, 9 whimbrel, 1 black swan, and 2 mute swans. On the walk in there was a singing stonechat, and grasshopper warbler on Covert coch bog. There was a steady northerly movement of small numbers of sand martins and swallows with the occasional house martin.
