The wonders of Dog Bog (Gors y Cwn)
In Bethania, adjoining Cross Inn Forest. I took the RSPB playback device once again to seek out Willow Tits, as on my other two recent visits to nearby areas. Five were present at four locations; 567638 (a planted grove next to the main road), 569647, 575644, 578642. In total I have found Willow Tits at 12 separate locations, each location being at least 300-400m apart. In such a soggy area it is obviously very difficult to get to every nook and cranny. It seems possible to me that there may be at least 15 pairs present. There were lots of other interesting birds about too of course, and on Gors y Cwn, fritillary butterflies (maybe Small Pearl Bordered and Marsh?), and at least two types of orchid (inc L.Butterfly?). Not sure if this is a reserve. Does anybody know?
