Wallog Cottage

It was interesting to read about Jerry Moore's experiences of Manx Shearwaters flying around Wallog at night. My wife and I lived in the same stable cottage for a year in 1987/8 and I recall Peter Davies the county bird recorder pointing out the previous manxie records in correspondence. We also heard them at night but likewise never confirmed any nesting.
Wallog was nevertheless an interesting place and from the upstairs window of the cottage we did once spot a Little Auk close to shore after a particularly stormy night. The cobble bank of Wallog Sarn (a glacial Esker) that extends out into Cardigan Bay was also a popular feeding spot for some of the hundreds of Red Throated Divers and Great Crested Grebes that wintered in the area in the 1980’s.
