Seawatching at Ynys-hir

Ynyshir was almost totally flooded yesterday (Thursday) morning on the high tide. It would have been easy to mistake the estuary for a vast lake. The Dyfi bends were an impressive sight from the Marion Mawr area. Might as well have been seawatching from an Irish Sea ferry the waves were so high! Needless to say there were few birds about. No bonxies but did manage to see something including redshank, curlew, wigeon, teal, oystercatcher, gull spp, cormorant and a merlin breezed past at one point.

Dave Thomas

I was at Ynys-hir for the high tide on Wednesday and had a similar experience to Dave, with the addition of three Goldeneye (two on the M M pools and one on the river). Also on the river were three Greylag Geese and a Great Crested Grebe,  No Merlin but I had a Sparrowhawk then to finish the morning three Stock Doves flew west over the reserve.
