Bittern at Llangorwen

I spotted this bird On the road outside Llangorwen Church near Aberystwyth, Ceredigion early evening approx 6:30pm on Saturday 11th April.

At first I thought it was a heron but as I drive closer, I could see it looked much browner. The nearest match I can find is a Bittern, although I wasn’t aware they came to this area. I’ve attached some photos, sorry for the poor quality, I didn’t have long and took it through car window.

Our children (3 and 5yrs) love going out spotting birds and trying to identify them with our rspb pocket guide to British birds. We live in Borth and are missing our visits to Ynyshir during this period of lockdown, but are very fortunate we have plenty to explore locally.

What a find!  It just goes to show that birds on migration can turn up anywhere.
