I have reluctantly had to conclude that the woodpecker I heard about a week ago was actually a great spotted. There's no shortage of them round here. While searching for it, I've had regular sightings of stock dove and heard them singing.
I found two kite nests without really trying and both now appear to be occupied with birds sitting on eggs. As well as other common woodland and other species a small flock of about 15 Fieldfares was present on Friday. There seemed to have been a small arrival of Chiffchaffs overnight.
