Recent sightings

My most ambitious bike ride yet on Friday, eventually ending up at Moel-y-llyn at the top of the Ceulan valley, which also involved quite a stiff walk as well.

Birdwise there were wood warblers on the forestry edge north of Nant-y-moch reservoir, in the Leri gorge near Bontgoch, and in the Cyneiniog valley;
A cuckoo was calling from Blaenceulan;
There were two male tufties on Llyn Syfydrin and about 30 canadas there with one family; much as I dislike canada geese at least in the uplands they behave more like wild birds!:
The small sand martin colony near Syfydrin (at about 330 m altitude) was active with birds seen entering burrows and at least five birds present;
Stonechats were scattered around throughout.

Butterfly wise small heaths were abundant in places. And we had a dark green fritillary in our garden a couple of days ago, unlikely as it may seem!

A few days ago there was a small group of crossbills in forestry above Penrhiwnewydd.
