As Ian says, we did have it down as a female originally. I haven't seen the bird, but looking at the photo of 16th Oct I would have also said female. Assuming it's the same bird, it was obviously a juvenile male, which some field guides show as very similar to winter female.
It's looking very good now, well worth a visit.
