A visit yesterday afternoon yielded 12 tufties (8m, 4f) various teal, moorhen, 3+ little grebes, and coot.  There were a couple each of swallow and sand martin.

I heard recently that a red kite was found injured in Salem about ten days ago; it was thought to have a broken wing. Someone from the RSPCA collected it but I have no further news. A local farmer said he had seen two kites "fighting" shortly before it was found, so possibly there was some kind of talon-grasping display going on which went wrong.
