5 swifts were screaming around Bont in yesterday morning's sunshine, great to see them back. I am getting some scaffolding erected soon and intend to put up a false soffit/fascia with swift nest boxes (as well as fixing the guttering!).
The
nearby Coed y Bont has had the larch extracted, basically removing 50% of the
upper woodland. It is a mess. I had moved the 40 nest boxes on to 'other' tree
species a few years ago in anticipation. Anyway, I was pleased to hear at least
7 male pied flycatchers singing away when I checked the boxes, and some of the
boxes had grass-lined nests ready. I didn't hear any wood warblers, although the
site has never provided more than 2 or 3 in the past.
