At Aberaeron yesterday the dipper was in evidence, although I didn't see it entering what I thought was the nest site. Also cruising up and down the river was a common sandpiper. There were several broods of tiny mallard ducklings.
On a walk from Aberarth to Llanon, there was a male kestrel and a peregrine
(probably female), also a chough and a whitethroat. I could hear whimbrel
calling from the shore. Oh, and a couple of wheatears on the shoreline towards
Llanon. I've never identified a Greenland Wheatear for sure so perhaps someone
could tell me the attached photo shows one or not!
Today I did my BBS survey at Tre'r ddol, and heard my first cuckoo of the
year, plus a calling stock dove - both firsts for the location. Apart from
chiffchaffs and blackcaps, spring migrants seemed to be a bit thin on the
ground.
Its good to get out and about in the sunshine!
