Liz's words "wisdom and warmth" sum up Mike Hayward nicely. Whenever our paths crossed in the field, more often than not at Ynyslas, it was always a pleasure to chat to him. An affable character with a wide-ranging knowledge of the county's birds (and much else, according to Liz's post).
Among his other interests, Mike was a keen and skilled photographer. He took on the role of Photographic Editor for the county avifauna Birds of Ceredigion by Hywel Roderick & Peter Davis, and a selection of his photos can be found in there.
Whenever I drove past Mike's place, as I did on Saturday morning on my way to Borth, I used to wonder how he was, so it was with particular sadness that I read the news on the blog later that day.
