A walk in the hills/forestry this morning. I was able to get very close to 6 Crossbills feeding in low trees by the side of the road at Bryn Glas; 3 males, 1 female and 2 juveniles. The young birds were very brown and streaky and appeared to be pestering the female for food. How old might they be, still in that plumage? Weeks? Months? Also, nearby, 7 Stonechats at the base of Waun Brynmeinog (450m), quite a lot for this time of year.
