A minimum of 60 Common Scoters were on the choppy sea off Penbryn beach on Wednesday 21st in two large groups, with some more individual birds here and there, the highest number I have logged for this time of year. Also, very pleased to have 6 Greenfinches back on the feeders near Aberporth. The single fierce Fieldfare that dominated the garden during the recent cold spell feasting on apples has departed to the great relieve of the Blackbirds who didn't stand a chance. The funniest observations was when the Fieldfare dive-bombed a Blackbird, making sure to do a little detour to knock a sparrow off the top of a bush. I am glad I got to see them in their breeding grounds in Estonia in June this year, showing a different character than that of the incessant bully (see pictures below).
