My first 2023 Swift coasting north between Aberaeron and Aberarth at 14.45 today Thurs 27th. Six days earlier than my first sighting in 2022.
A cold BBS
survey visit in the Dihewid area this morning (27th) produced a number of
singing Blackcaps, two singing Willow Warblers and a singing Redstart. Also
three Great Spotted Woodpecker territories. But only one Kite nest and only one
bird flying - the rookery where they have nested for the last two years is no
more. Normally see more kites - often still perched before they can get up on
the thermals. Slightly concerning possibly but one of the landowners assures me
that he usually sees up to three over his land so more reassuring.
