Castle Point, Saturday afternoon
After several counts there are at least 56 sandwich terns on the furthest
rocks - most I have ever seen here! Also a close in Razorbill.
Helen Herbert
Helen and I had met at Castle Point on Saturday morning, when we witnessed a light passage of Sandwich Terns; 18 in total, all going south. Also heading south were eight Black-headed Gulls, while two Shelducks went north. Much further out, distant Manx Shearwaters ansd a worryinglysmall count of three Gannets. I wonder how badly they've been affected by avian flu.
After Helen went home to prepare for Aberystwyth Town's vital game I went to the harbour and found six Purple sands and 11 Turnstones.
