Raptors, etc.

Yesterday I found a pair of very noisy goshawks near Tal-y-bont, and there was a pair of goosander cruising down above the Leri near Cwmere. It is very noticeable that about April 10th every year the number of red kites visible in the air at any one time drops quite suddenly. My guess would be that most birds in the air now will be young or unmated birds. The adults have more important things to do.

A liitle vignette from my window this morning - a woodpigeon on an electrical cable at the bottom of the garden was set upon by a magpie, resulting in a shower of feathers falling to the ground. It didn't take long for the house sparrows to spot some luxurious nesting material and they quickly took most of the feathers into their nest boxes.
