At about 10:30 this morning I went into the house for a coffee, as I stood looking out into the rear garden two birds flew in, one landed on an apple tree support post in clear view about 6m away the other carried on flying behind a large box bush and was hidden from view.
To my amazement right in front of me was a female Hawfinch, it was there for about 10 secs before flying off taking the other bird with it. I have never seen a live Hawfinch in Ceredigion, since 1979!. Though about 6/7 yrs ago I was given the corpse of a juvenile bird that had flown into a window in the last house before the ford down the Cletwr lane in The r Ddol.
