The breeding pair at Treflyn (Cors Caron) have just returned to the nest site on the property they have been using for 3 years. Apparently there was an influx along the south coast of England recently so they have made their way up to us! There has been a breeding pair using various nest boxes for at least 23 years at Plas Treflyn though these days there is apprehension that they might not come given the huge population decline of recent years.
There are 6 Pied Flys also nesting so the Purple Hairstreaks might not survive this onslaught! I only knew about the butterflies when I examined a wing dropped by a feeding Spotty in the adjacent oaks some years ago!
