Yesterday evening about 15 swifts around the old chapel at Salem. I had assumed they nested there, but probably not in those kinds of numbers, so maybe all the tiny colonies in the area get together in evening for a good scream around?
At Llyn Mynydd Gorddu on Tuesday were at least five little grebes, one pair
had 3 or 4 chicks but still had time to squabble wirth another pair in the
middle of the lake. Also there were four male tufties and one female.
I found 19 active kite nests during the first part of my N. Ceredigion
survey, including 9 along the south side of the valley from Salem
eastwards!
I'm also keeping my eyes on a pair each of peregrine, goshawk and merlin,
and all were apparently doing well on my last visits. I do hope nothing untoward
happens this year.
