A pair of merlins has fledged three young, and the goshawks I was watching near Tal-y-bont had one very large young still on the nest on my most recent visit (June 29th), with two calling from the trees nearby.
I was very surprised to see an immature hobby in the
hills in the far north-east of the county recently. Mick Green tells me he has
seen them over the border in Monts, and that they visit the uplands in such of
large day-flying moths.
