Ringed as a chick in June 2013 on an island in the Elbe just west of Hamberg, Germany, it had been recorded back at that site most years during the breeding season, including this year. It has been seen wintering 1900 km away in Portugal for several years. In common with many Continental Med. Gulls it has visited the west Wales coast on route from its nesting site to its winter quarters. In July 2016 Chris Bird saw it on College Rocks, Aberystwyth and in early October 2020 it was at the Nevern estuary in Pembrokeshire. Arfon Williams saw it in September 2021 at Cei Bach and at Llanon and the following month Jill and I saw it on College Rocks and in the harbour. This year it was seen at the breeding site on 6th June. By 30 July it was at Pwllheli and yesterday we saw it in the harbour from our balcony, 925 km away from where it left Germany. A much travelled bird! This morning we watched a Kingfisher in the harbour.
