Harrier count at Cors Fochno

A pleasant but chilly afternoon to count harriers coming in to roost at Cors Fochno, with Dave Purdon. Two pairs of eyes are better than one!

One male and one ringtail hen harrier were seen about 4.30 pm. At  the same time two fem/imm marsh harriers were also visible. Some time later two female/imm marsh harriers were again visible but it was impossible to know if they were the same birds. Then as darkness approached an adult male marsh appeared and quickly dropped in. So it is possible that the entire family that last year bred on the Dyfi was present, or possibly just the male and two others.

A probable female merlin merged into the fence post it was perched on as darkess descended and a hunting barn owl was the last bird seen. Water rail also heard.
