Starling and Lapwing

In amongst the frantic Christmas preparations I was delighted this morning to see at least 20 lapwing settle in the field on the other side of the Rheidol river .They were accompanied by 3 times their number of starling. They seemed to be feeding but they were very restless and lifted and moved several times but they came back and remained there for at least an hour.I don't think I have ever seen lapwing here before but this cold spellmust have encouraged them to forage elswhere. It will be interesting to see if they return.
I also had two good sitings of a male bullfinch in splended colour ,he was close to the house but not brave enough to feed with the other visitors to the table. He had his eye on the currants but they were soon devoured by the blackbirds. Its so rewarding to see the birds feeding this time of the year.
Can I be the first to wish you all a happy Christmas and very succesful birding in 2010.

Best wishes Lis Collison
