At the beginning of the year I mentioned about large numbers of Starlings that I sometimes see first thing in the morning passing over Rhydlewis/Brynhoffnant,numbering many thousands. I was wondering where they had come from exactly and there were various suggestions at the time. Anyway, I've just been rereading through back copies of the annual report and I noticed that in December 2007 there was a record of a Starling roost containing 120000 birds at Mydroilyn. The Starlings pass over Rhydlewis heading SW and Mydroilyn is about 10miles NE of there so this seems a likely candidate for my birds. 120000 Starlings! I like the idea of that!
I should also like to publicly apologise to a Great Tit that I ridiculed on Sunday. Suffice to say that it was all my fault. I realised today that I set up the feeder wrong. That's why the sunflower hearts didn't fall out. That's why you were bashing your little head against the side of the feeder for so long in a futile attempt to get at the seed. It's me who's the stupid one. Apologies. Ian.
