The big freeze
Whilst we can do a little to help feed some of our familiar garden birds most of course are beyond our assistance. On my way to work on Monday morning the car thermometer was reading -13c at 5.30 in the morning! I noticed a solitary Tawny Owl on a telegraph wire as I passed through Drefach. How many mice would be out and about in this weather I wonder? Later that morning in Sarnau I saw 6 Snipe precariously close to the main coast road and today on my way in to Lampeter I flushed 2 more that were actually on the Lampeter/Tregaron road. It looked as though they were trying to eke out an existence in the grit and slush on the side of the road. A pitiful sight indeed.
