Cuckoo and Yellowhammer on Foel Fawr

Buster and I went for a tea-time walk on Foel Fawr this afternoon. As we reached my favourite seat on the Foel, in fact probably my favourite place in the world, I heard and quickly located a Cuckoo quite close by. He had a call I've never heard before - only a tone between upper and lower notes and the second one repeated "cuck coo coo - cuck coo coo". I watched as he flew down from the rowan he was in and picked up a worm which he took to a nearby rock and ate. He then returned to the rowan and was mobbed first by a Chaffinch, then a Great Tit. The tit was a feisty little blighter and after a couple of aerial dog-fights the Cuckoo beat a retreat with the tit in hot pursuit. On our way down the hill I stopped to watch a very handsome (silent) Yellowhammer.
