house martins

At Soar y Mynydd chapel this morning there was a frenzy of activity as hm's arrived in force-at least 16 birds. There was a cacophany of chatter as birds crammed into the old nests, couples going in together, the excitement was palpable.
3 hours later all was relatively calm as they set about renewal of the nests.
No spottie there tho' and only 1 family of stonechats in 5 hours on the hills.
Back at the ranch Bri reported a similar but smaller scale event which involved swallows and martins visiting old nests with much excitement and interaction..
BTO have surmised in response to public concern at the lack of martins that the ash cloud and the northerly winds may have held them up. The passage reported along our shores has been replicated along the South coast.
