Bob, you have reminded me: cuckoo calling on Cors Caron at 3am 25th,26th May. Other days I may have been asleep!
On my moorland BBS this morning 4 grasshopper warbs singing briefly, 3 yellowhammers plus 2 tree pipits...more than ever before but very few mipits, still no stonechat(had 3 territories previously) or wheatear (3 previously). A lot of fencing is going up across the moors around the Doethie which will be good if it stops the off-roading but it rather diminishes the sense of 'wild'.
The lack of mipits and other small birds may have resulted in the large number of day-flying moths and ticks I saw.
