With regard to Andre's 'flock of tits'; warm humid weather this time of year, means loads of ants maturing and going out on mating flights. Could this be a possible explanation? In Penarth I have seen Herring gulls and others 'hawking for them.
We also had a Sparrow Hawk come to pick up his 'takeaway' from the peanut feeder. He went into one of the nearby large hedgerow oaks and re-appeared some 5mins later, still carrying it's (plucked?) prey, presumably to a hungry brood.
