I appear to be suffering from PTFS, post tetrad fatigue syndrome. Symptoms include guilt that one really ought to be getting on a with a bit of DIY around the house before the autumn migration really kicks in and I get too distracted.
I was looking at that lovely photo of the Little Owl that was on the blog recently and was reminded of an owl that I found in our kitchen the other day. I didn't recognise it and it was not illustrated in the Collins field guide. Fortuneately, I had the foresight to take a few field notes.
Jizz;rather 2 dimensional, moribund, flat on it's back.
Feathers appeared 'worn' giving it a 'hundreds and thousands' look.
Face; yucky, minty green. Lots of e numbers.
Eyes; staring and zombie-like.
Body; brown, chocolatey, very yummy.
Note especially the tiny wings. Clearly this is a species incapable of flight. I suggest it has evolved in isolation free from natural predators. Almost certainly a very rare tropical island endemic whose arrival in Llangybi was, er, 'ship assisted.'
Other distinctive features; completely legless.
