NEW QUAY, PEMBS and "BIRDS of CEREDIGION"

Some images from my trip to New Quay today.
Many of the auks have now left their breeding ledges but there were still a few left, together with the Kittewakes which seem to be doing very well with just about
every visible nest containing at least 2 young. Lots of young Shags about and a few Seals.
I then headed south into Pembrokeshire for this bird.
Thanks to Richard D for the directions.
That one is for Hywel and in memory of him.
Infact it was HWR who found Ceredigion's first and only Dartford Warbler a couple of years ago. It would be worth examining any stretches of coastal gorse for this super bird.
Thinking of Hywel, his book, "BIRDS of CEREDIGION" is an absolute must for anyone with an interest in birds in this county. He was unable to finish it and Peter Davis put in an enormous amount of time and effort into completing it and preparing it for publication. As well as being joint author he has taken on much of the task of distributing the book which is now widely available in bookshops and Tourist Information Centres around the county. For those outside of Ceredigion it can be obtained from Peter, post and packing free. Contact him on 01545 570870
It is a high quality, hardback volume with many colour photographs and at £16.50 is exceptionally good value for money.(For more details, see the posting of 29th June by Mike Hayward, the book's photographic editor.)
As a historical review of the county's birdlife it is a marvellous read. It is immensely readable, thanks to Hywel's style of writing and contains so much information that it should be regarded as a classic of its type.
