I can thoroughly endorse John Val's recommendation of Arthur Chater's fantastic new flora - it's brilliant, and at £40 for a sumptiously produced hardback, a real bargain. I understand that Ystwyth Books have now sold out, so the best way to get your copy is online from Summerfield Books http://www.summerfieldbooks.com/. Only 500 copies have been printed, so don't leave it too long if you want one!
On a different tack, I got a surprise on the way home this evening: on pulling out from the Comins-coch turn onto the Aber-Bow Street main road I noticed that the usual Buzzard on top of the roadside telegraph post looked a bit odd, and on getting closer realised that it was in fact an adult Peregrine instead! It was calmly eating a largish prey item, totally oblivious to all the traffic passing by just below, and apparently having no difficulty balancing the corpse on the relatively small post-top. Had I been Mike H, I would have whisked out my camera from the passenger seat and snapped a couple of pics - but admittedly this would probably have been a pretty risky manoeuvre on this stretch of road.... so I had to make do with a couple of extra drive-pasts to get more views of it.
Congratulations to Paul and Marc: your Borth watch outshone Strumble Head this morning!
