There was a Wryneck this morning at Llanrhystud. The bird was along the fence posts between the car park and the lime kilns along with 4 Wheatears. Initially I took it for a Wheatear as they were behaving in a similar way, dropping down on to the turf, up on to the fence briefly and down again. Had great views of it for about 10 minutes before it flew past me towards the reeds that run along the little drainage ditch. When I returned 40 minutes later it was apparently gone but by then people were arriving on the beach so it may have been lying low.
Four rather different looking warblers at the lime kilns were I think all Chiffchaffs. Certainly, one was singing a little. One,with dark legs, looked immaculate in warm buff and yellow plumage. Another looked like it had just spent ten minutes in a tumble drier.
Eleven White Wagtails were on the beach. 100 House Martins flew north. Few waders or action out at sea.
Called in at Cors Caron on the way home. At the south end of the reserve there was a single Greenshank, 29 Lapwings, a Little Grebe, 80 Goldfinches and 8 Whinchats.
