Moira Convery, our BTO rep. is excellent in getting good coverage of much of the County for the BTO 3-year Atlas project (breeding and wintering birds). Having been asked to cover parts of the coastal area I once again enjoyed some of my best birdwatching while undertaking this 'chore'.
Yesterday at Llanrhystud on the shore near the lime kilns: almost 1300 Golden Plovers, 5 Mediterranean Gulls and offshore, almost viewable together, a Red-throated, two Black-throated and a Great Northern Diver.
Before the light faded I went to Llanon and noticed several Skylarks feeding in one of the stubble fields to the south. I kept hearing a Lapland Bunting and just before I had to go, caught sight of it, out in the open, clear of the old vegetation. What an afternoon!
