I notice the starlings are hanging around in groups, flying to and fro, rather than off to their usual feeding grounds; a sure sign that they will be returning to the continent any time, confirmed by the sight of them plundering the ivy berries with gusto to build up their reserves.
Talking of building up reserves, our resident male robin is feeding his mate assiduously, so much so that when she was perched in the hedge, at the very tip of a twig, he fed her while hovering humming bird style, twice that I saw. She is not as much in evidence so I suspect she is laying or sitting, as he takes food and returns 'empty billed' to repeat the trip.
