There was another small turn out at Denmark Farm this morning - where were you
all ? You certainly missed a treat as the weather was fine, the habitat varied,
the birds plentiful and the guide (Ian Morris) expert and informative.
The list of birds seen and heard was : Canada goose, mallard, kite, moorhen,
wood pigeon, cuckoo, swallow, pied wagtail, wren, dunnock, robin, redstart,
blackbird, blackcap, garden warbler (at one point the two were singing
together to give us great practise at hearing the differences), willow warbler,
chiffchaff, pied flycatcher (plenty of these and lovely close views), great tit,
coal tit, blue tit, long tailed tit, magpie, jay, jackdaw, crow, house
sparrow, chaffinch and bullfinch. A very enjoyable couple of hours in a beautiful
setting.
After a pleasant cup of tea and a chat a few of us continued to Llanerchaeron
to walk one of the new paths that have been recently created in the woods near
the car park. The weather got better and in warm sunshine we saw/ heard the
following list: kite, buzzard, wood pigeon, stock dove, wren, robin, redstart,
song thrush, blackcap, chiffchaff, goldcrest, pied flycatcher, great tit, blue
tit, nuthatch, treecreeper, and chaffinch. The woods are beautiful and the new
paths are well made (with more work ongoing by the looks of it) so it is well
worth a visit, and, if you don't want to visit the house and garden, it's
free!
