Mostly waders

Myself and Pete Scott (friend from Hull staying for a few days), started in Aberystwyth where we had three Purple Sandpipers, 15 Whimbrel which dropped in to College Rocks and a couple of Sandwich Terns.
John then joined us for the short trip to Tanybwlch, where there were two Common Sandpipers and a Goosander on the river, five Dunlin flew north and six Whimbrel were joined by a Bar-tailed Godwit. Best of the rest were a Great Crested Grebe on the sea and two Choughs.
A walk along the cycle track along the base of Pendinas produced great views of various warblers and Orange Tip and Green-veined White butterflies.
Pete and I continued to Llanrhystud, where the flooded field held more waders than I've ever seen there before, i.e. 96 Dunlin, 21 Whimbrel and six Black-tailed Godwits, plus Mediterranean Gull and White Wagtail.
On the beach were Sanderling and Bar-tailed Godwit.
At Llanon, the highlights were 12 Greenland Wheatears and another five Whimbrel.
Probably the most unexpected bird of the day was a Red-legged Partridge, seen walking along the Llanon to Pennant road.
A stop at Ty Gwyn pool proved to be a good decision, as apart from the usual Lapwings we added Little Ringed Plover and Yellow Wagtail, the latter a very scarce bird in Ceredigion, particularly inland.
Finally, a walk into Cross Inn forest, where Cuckoo and Tree Pipit rounded off a very successful day's birding.
