I had a two and a half hour stint at the layby just after the lone house at Llyn Blaenmelindwr with no luck, but there was a Grasshopper reeling away and a male Whinchat plus bats and several million midgies! About to give up on this normally fairly realiable site, I decided to move round to Pendam, and as soon as the engine was turned off, I could here churring breifly from above Pendam, presumably on the slopes of the recent clearfell area on the Penrhyncoch road. I stayed a little longer but no more churring. Also here were at least three calling Tawny owls and a Barn Owl flew over.

On the way back home, I stopped on the Ponterwyd mountain Road just at the standing stones as this area always looks good for Nightjars, and again as the engine was turned off there was churring. and it went on and on and was pretty close, perhaps near the top of the slope.

It was worth the bites!
