High-tide count at Ynys-hir
Barnacle geese numbers have increased to 321 and 16 Greenland white-fronted geese were on fields near the Breakwater hide with a lone pink-footed goose out on the river. A spotted redshank was the wader highlight of the count. A pochard has been on the pools below the car-park for the last few days; suprisingly only the second county record this year (it is scarcer in 2012 than both eider and long-tailed duck). From tomorrow the path along the railway line at Ynys-hir will be closed until April 1st. This is to reduce disturbance to the ducks and waders on the Breakwater fields and, as it often floods in winter, to reduce the risk of people trespassing on the Railway line to get to the Breakwater hide.
