Glorious day and a surprise

Perhaps it is the muck spreading going on round here at Blaenpennal, the sky these past few days seem to have been full, today in the space of just 10 minutes, 6 Buzzards, 9 Red Kites, at least 3 pairs of Ravens, a scattering of Crows and over 30 Jackdaws split between two groups and whilst clearing a ditch I disturbed two Woodcock.
Early this morning woken by a woodpecker drilling away followed by the incessant calling of a couple of pairs of Nuthatches, feeders in the garden have never been so busy, including 4 Marsh Tits, whilst on the lake in the field the juvenile Grey Heron had a surprise visitor in the form of a female Goldeneye!
A few weeks ago the Heron had the company of 7 Goosanders, guess they had dropped in from Llyn Fanod or Llyn Eiddwen, can only think they were after frogs as the fish stock had been exhausted a couple of years ago by their kin. A pair of Stock Doves and two Jackdaws are showing interest again in the two Barn Owl boxes, maybe the same pairs as nested last year. Hope this 'Spring-like' weather does not mislead the birds in to nesting too early.
