Nightjars

A successful visit last night above Llanddewi Brefi. A bird started churring at Bryn Glas (677522) at about 10.20pm. I was standing on the other side of the road having just walked round a promising looking area called Bryn y rhyd. I stood up on a tree stump to get a better view and started clapping my hands to try and draw a bird in. Without a sound a male bird came up behind me so closely that I instinctively ducked as it frightened the life out of me in the gathering gloom. A minute later, from about 100m from where I stood (685522), it started a duet with the first male.
