Henllan Field Trip

Thank you to the 7 folk who joined me this morning. We discovered that the (very muddy)route that I'd chosen took us through some interesting looking woodland with thick undergrowth in places and open parkland in others and many venerable trees throughout. 2 Marsh Tits put in an appearance almost as soon as we set off. Other good birds inc. Dipper and a few Stock Doves. 33 species was a good count on such a brief stroll and considering we missed lots of common birds that must obviously be about the true number present must be somewhat higher. We pondered whether Lesser Spotted Woodpecker may still be hanging on here and it seemed that there was plenty of suitable habitat. Indeed, we only completed half of the proposed walk through the woods. I have been asked by Denmark Farm Conservation Centre (aka Mrs Morris) to mention that I am leading a walk for them next Sunday 8th March, starting at 9.30. The site is quite small, so not too much walking required. I have been asked to focus on bird calls and songs in particular. Tea/coffee/cake will be provided for the needy for a small donation.
