SHORT-EARED OWL at ABERYSTWYTH

We were on the wooden jetty by the harbour at Aberystwyth at the very high tide at 9am and noted the 7 Purple Sandpipers on the rocks beside the jetty.
At the far end of the walkway we saw 3 Herring Gulls come into view out at sea, flying in from the south. They appeared to be chasing another gull but as they came closer it was clear that it was a Short-eared Owl being chased. They flew low into the harbour entrance and as the gulls drifted away the owl continued inland, flying low over the houses on the road to Spencer's sheds and flopped down amongst the gorse on the lower slope of Pen Dinas!
