Malta

I received this email this afternoon.

I guess I'm on her mailing list because I contacted her on this subject a couple of years back.

What I wanted to know then, and what I'd still like to know is -

This is completely contrary to EU Wildlife Legislation. What are you and your fellow ASE/MEPs doing about it Miss Evans?

Dear Constituent,

I would like to bring to your attention this clip of Bill Odie giving his input on the Maltese bird hunting situation on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’.

'Depressing comment on humanity' - Bill Oddie on Malta hunt.

A Maltese referendum has decided - by a margin of less than 1% - to allow the contentious spring hunt to continue.

Malta's Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FKNK) described spring hunting as "an integral part" of the hunting tradition in Malta.

The island is a stopping-off point for migrating birds returning from Africa to Europe, and conservationists argue some hunters shoot protected species.

Bird-watcher Bill Oddie, a supporter of the League Against Cruel Sports in Malta, described the result as "a pretty depressing comment on humanity".

Yours sincerely,

Jill Evans
