Long Wood, Betws Bledrws

An annual May hike from the Llangybi car park to Lampeter and back this morning was a bit disappointing. Perhaps it was the chilly, grey weather. Last year I counted 10 Wood Warblers, a record at this site for me. This year, only 5, the lowest total since 2009 I think. I was also under the impression, perhaps wrongly, that the community group who manage Long Wood had put up about a hundred boxes over the winter. And so I was anticipating a big increase in Pied Flycatchers but saw only 6 c.f. 5 last year. In fact, the boxes were more elusive than the Flycatchers.
