Llanrhystud to Llanon

Down the coast for this morning's high tide. The pebble beach at Llanrhystud often looks devoid of birds but careful scanning usually reveals something. I had managed to find two Dunlin and six Ringed Plover when a flock of 25 Turnstones flew in and landed within easy counting distance. Many were resplendent in summer plumage.
Lots of small birds around, including about 90 House Sparrows, 15 Linnets, six Wheatears and a few Pied Wagtails.
The stubble field before the lime kilns held at least 250 Woodpigeons, including many juvs, and three Stock Doves. On the sea were 24 Canada Geese.
More waders at Llansantffraed; 36 Oystercatchers including our old favourite, the partial albino, 26 Curlews, four Dunlin, three Ringed Plover, six Turnstones and three Sanderling.
Thirty Med Gulls were mostly on the sea, with another 27 later on the beach south of Llanon.
Also by the beach car park at Plas Morfa were another ca40 House Sparrows and a Field Vole.

Paul Bennett, a first-time participant on Saturday's field trip, was also at Llanrhystud on Sunday. Among his sightings were four Wheatears, five Turnstones and a Whitethroat.
