An excellent turnout for the monthly walk, as Red Liford led 18 of us round Ynyslas. (I counted 20, but I'll go with the majority).
Not an abundance of birds around, waders and terns in particular being in very short supply. Still, I think most people had the chance to look at Sanderling, Dunlin, Ringed Plover and Med Gull on the ground.
A Peregrine over the point may have had some bearing on the lack of waders.
It was also very quiet at sea. A few distant Sandwich Terns, the odd Manx Shearwater, but later, before we headed back over the dunes after walking round the point, we were able to watch a feeding party of Gannets to the north of Aberdyfi. With them, though distant, were more manxies and even more distant was a tightly packed flock of gulls which Red and I agreed were probably Kittiwakes.
Back on the estuary side near the tern posts a Juv Peregrine flew in and landed on the sand in front of us, joined by another when it flew off.
Meanwhile there was some seriously long distance birding going on, as we watched an Osprey somewhere over the hills upriver from Aberdyfi, and a Buzzard which appeared to me to be about halfway to Machynlleth.
Still, it had turned into a lovely morning and a good time was had by all.
