High tide at Ynyslas

A party of 12 Whimbrel flew across the road as I approached Ynyslas this morning. Having arranged to meet Bob and John, I managed to find two each of Grey Plover, Knot and Bar-tailed Godwit in the few minutes before the tide flushed them off, just before the other two arrived.
On his way, John had the unusual sight of 11 Collared Doves flying north together over the dunes.
We headed to the point, where Dunlin predominated.  John had a count of 448, but they continued to fly in; a final figure of 500 would be pretty near the mark.
Also there, good numbers of Ringed Plover (no count), at least five Sanderling, two Knot, one of them red, and a gorgeous summer Turnstone.
Lots of hirundines moving north the whole time: the majority were House Martins, then Swallows, but a surprising number of Sand Martins.
Back to the estuary, where the small waders were coming in on the falling tide, and a gradual build up of Whimbrel to 10.  Four Sandwich terns arrived and settled on the posts.
As we were checking Ynys Tachwedd fields on the way out, a party of 17 Whimbrel flew over from the beach and landed in the field, and a Wheatear was on the golf course nearby.
We finished off with a delicious breakfast in the Clettwr Cafe.
